The management of environmental and social issues is now a standard concern within any business or institution. The provision of environmental services is therefore an integral part of the design, engineering and other technical support services available from the Nippon Koei Group.

AureoleBD is conscious of the future direction of environmental management and keeps pace with the likely requirements of our clients. Climate change, the increasing cost of hydrocarbons, the growing demand for all natural resources, and the problems of water and waste management are issues that demand our attention.

In the energy field, AureoleBD’s environmental and social track-record in both hydropower and the oil and gas industries puts us in a good position to address the growing need for the development of renewables and for the further exploration, production and transport of hydrocarbons, as existing supplies dwindle.

The ever-increasing growth of cities emphasises the importance of urban management issues, including solid waste management (SWM), in which AureoleBD has enviable research experience.

The increasingly widespread adherence to the Equator Principles and internal ‘Safeguard Policies’ by development assistance agencies, International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and the private sector, means that Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and/or Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) is required for virtually all new development. Similarly, Environmental Audits are required by banks and finance houses as part of Due Diligence for the acquisition of major assets, followed by the establishment of a corporate Environmental Management System (EMS). These types of environmental review and management have therefore become a mainstay of AureoleBD’s environmental work, much of which has been conducted in relation to proposed major linear infrastructure (pipelines, roads and powerlines), power generation facilities, wastewater treatment plants, ports and airports.

As the interests of development assistance agencies and multilateral financial institutions move ‘upstream’, we are also increasingly involved in the environmental assessment of policy issues and the ‘mainstreaming’ of environmental and social issues within poverty reduction initiatives.

AureoleBD is proud of the technical excellence of its work in the environmental and social sciences. This includes the conduct of baseline studies in the field as part of EIAs, and the subsequent monitoring of environmental and social parameters. We also advise organisations and industries on how to build such work into their own planning and development. This enables environmental mitigation and enhancement to be included within any project, for the benefit of the environment, the community and the client.
